• Philadelphia socialites Tracy Lord and C.Thou. Dexter Haven married impulsively, with their matrimony and subsequent divorce being equally passionate. They broke upward when Dexter's drinking became excessive, information technology a mechanism to cope with Tracy's unforgiving manner to the imperfect, imperfections which Dexter admits he readily has. • Tracy Lord (Katharine Hepburn) is a wealthy Principal Line Philadelphia socialite who divorced C.M.   The dark before the wedding, Tracy gets drunk for merely the second time in her life and takes an innocent swim with Mike. When George sees Mike carrying an intoxicated Tracy into the business firm afterward, he thinks the worst. The adjacent twenty-four hours, he tells her that he was shocked and feels entitled to an explanation before going ahead with the wedding. Tracy takes exception to his lack of faith in her and breaks off the date. Then she realizes that all the guests accept arrived and are waiting for the anniversary to begin. Mike volunteers to marry her (much to Liz's distress), merely Tracy graciously declines. At this point, Dexter makes his bid for her hand, which she accepts.
